Just announced this evening from PAX (I saw the Twitter entry on the official Guild Wars site, then WarCry put up a news byte) that Arena.net has a publishing deal with Pocket Books for three novels set in the 250-year time period between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. The books will, in part, cover some of the changes that occur to explain how GW2′s lore differs from GW. No mention yet if these will be three stand-alone novels or a trilogy. I’m hoping for the latter.
I really enjoyed the Mass Effect prequel novel, Revelations, and a follow-up recently hit the shelves as well, Ascension, which I have not yet read. I’ve even heard the Halo novels were good? Regardless, I’ll be ordering the Guild Wars novels as soon as they’re available and will be anxiously awaiting more information, such as who’s writing them?

I remember reading the Diablo novels, which were awful. If there is a semi-respectable author writing the Guild Wars ones, I might be making a purchase. Extra lore is always helpful
I am with Crimson. If the novels are good, cool.
But, I have read the WoW novels and Diablo novels (which of course were both written by Richard Knaak who writes like he was a DM for a bad night of D&D) and I have read an EQ2 novel, and kept falling asleep.
I hope they are better like the old Shadowrun novels I have read or the Vampire series. Warhammer also had some respectable novels.
One can hope.
Oh, man! Richard Knaack! Yeah, I’ve read two of his books. I can’t remember what the first one was but I think it was Warcraft-related. (Warcraft, not World of Warcraft) Yeah, I remember thinking his writing wasn’t so hot. The second book, if memory serves well, was better but I can’t for the life of me recall what the hell the book was.
The most recent game-related novel I read was the Mass Effect one, and I’ll be picking up the second one as soon as I remember to hit up Barnes & Noble when I’m out.
