I would tend to agree with Genda, if the hardware itself is working then it must be the cabling. In my business tracking down a signal path issue can be a pain, so I understand the frustration.

The other potential option is to try and plug your cable modem directly into the line where it comes into the house. Try to eliminate any internal wiring issues and maybe(?) have more evidence to present to Comcast.

@Tipa: This is my 5+ yr. old desktop and previously I was using the desktop that died last month, so that makes 2 PC's plugged directly into the router/modem. I also have my laptop, phone, and Xbox 360 using the wireless network but if the modem disconnects, so does the router...

@Thallian: Unfortunately I think Comcast is the only game in town. Also I get free cable tv as part of my condo fees so I'm only paying for internet from Comcast, which is still something like $62/month for their highest speed tier package.

Have you tried it with another computer? Does the disconnection happen such that you can watch your modem and/or router try to reconnect? And if you can see the disconnection happen on your hardware, does it disconnect on the modem and the router, or just the router? Does it happen if you connect wirelessly (if your router supports that)?

change your provider. I love comcast, don't get me wrong, I think they are the best deal in the US (of the poor deals we get) But if they aren't providing you with consistent service switch to another non-cable provider so that you're riding on a different system.
